Founder and CEO of SG David Bentley was recently interviewed by Greg Wright from the Yorkshire Post. They discussed business continuity and growth during a pandemic, and his ambition to build a £150m turnover technology company in Yorkshire- within the next 3 years.
David set up the business in the last recession of 2009 which was a challenging time itself economically, but without the health, social and emotional impact of events in 2020. There is no doubt that the Covid pandemic has caused bleak times for many businesses which are sad to see. As a company, we are moving forward as a strong team and we are optimistic about the future.
David’s co-director Alex Wilkinson is the force behind operations. In his role as Chief Operating Officer he is pivotal in delivering new and innovative products and services to SG customers including Professional and Managed Services.
18 months ago we had started to pivot and just before lockdown, we announced that we had become a Dell technologies Gold partner. As an organisation, we have always sought to listen to our customers and ensure that we are always proactive in what they need us to do. Our goal was never to be just another supplier, being a true partner to their growth has been our model.
David comments in the article:
A natural choice for our next stage was to partner with world-leading Dell Technologies, a company I have greatly admired for many years, alongside substantial investment and hiring.
“Our rounds of investment and recruitment have worked out brilliantly,” he said.
“We have been hiring throughout the covid pandemic. We have hired another five people during the pandemic and plan to hire another 20 or so before the year-end.
“Our aim to be 60-strong by the end of the year.
“Technology has always interested me and I’ve always been fascinated by people – and we’re all about people at SG. It’s been the cornerstone of our success.”
The key to driving sustainable growth is to hire the best people and pay them what they are worth. Our customers have remained the focus of everything we do and the team align themselves as an integral part of those businesses. Their success is our success after all”.
Drive runs from directors David and Alex, through the whole C- Suite team and into all our staff. There is a motivation to keep building an organisation that embodies our core values and is truly outstanding for our customers. There is no doubt that the last few months have been a challenge. As an agile and people focussed organisation, we have taken stock, supported each other, collaborated strongly with our customers and ensured business continuity.
The icing on the cake for David would be Leeds United being promoted to the Premiership this season. We are all hoping this is the year they can do it!
